I don't think I have achieved anything this semester, because I was mostly just bored with the assignments and just wanted to play in a band. Because of that I didn't do my assignments. That hindered me because I didn't get any marks for anything. If given the chance I would probably leave the academy because it's not what I was expecting. What I wanted was to play in a band like I did last year. I played trumpet in an orchestra with my friends, we mostly just picked whatever instrument we wanted to play then voted on a song and we learned it. There wasn't a highlight for me this semester. I'm not interested in composing my own music or playing in small groups rather than ensembles. For this semester I hope there are more chances to play my instrument with others. I want to get together with people and pick a song to learn, then spend the next few weeks learning it with a conductor in more of a band situation. In band class I really like to play in a traditional band with a conductor and a bunch of different instruments. In the future I see me playing in an orchestra through high school but not later as a job. The only thing that really challenged me is just caring about the things we do in class and I haven't done anything to overcome that. Later in english I hope to get more freedom and choose my own book to read and to do assignments on, but for music i'm not sure how I would do the same. Maybe I could find a song I could play solo or practice a song with Connor to play on the Nashville trip in spring. I would like to improve my sight reading of music.

1. Why were you not able to attend and perform the Celebration?
I wasn't ready to perform. I didn't have enough songs ready because I didn't want to because I don't like solo performances. 2. How easy was it for you to make the choice not to attend or not to perform? Why? It was easy because I didn't really want to perform in the first place and I didn't care about the consequences. Like I said, I don't like solo performances. I don't think they sound as good and aren't as fun as ensemble performances because I prefer more instruments being played. I want to play as an ensemble, with the whole class and instead of working toward making it happen I avoided it. I feel like it would have gotten shot down. 3. How important is it to ensure you are able to attend planned performances? Pretty important because you can become more confident, it can make you a better player 3. How are you planning for your independent performance since you didn’t perform at the C of L? Where and when will it be? Who are you inviting and how are you promoting it? I would like to do it in the band room 4. What will you do to ensure you are ready and present at the next school performance? Focus more on practicing in class to ensure I have all my songs ready to perform As a class we had a presentation about procrastination. It just reassured the fact that I procrastinate. Here are some strategies I could use to complete the research project.
In class we learned how to write and use SMART goals. My smart goal is that by November 24 I will have answered all 9 questions for 5 different websites so that the website research assignment is complete. I have prioritized the music assignments over this because I know that my music grade is lower and the assignments for that are worth more of my overall grade. When it comes to time management I do not use my class time wisely and don't hand in assignments on time. However for this assignment I am going to stick to the SMART goal I set and hand it in before the due date by managing my class time better. Google calendars was introduced to me in class, and I think that it is a great tool because you can use it to remind you about all kinds of things like when an assignment is due. I haven't used it yet but I plan to later on because I could use it to give me a ton of reminders to complete my assignments. Smart Goal
My goal is to be more confident in playing solos or alone in general. I will practice for 15 minutes every tuesday and thursday morning for six months. This is important for any musician because you will at some point in your music career be asked to play a solo. |
